Subject: I love you

Hilarious!

I just found an entry in my diary from early 2009. I sound a lot like a squealing young girl as I excitedly go on (and on) about how I got my first ever email from you.

I guess I was pretty sure it was a sign we would get married.

Of course, you don't explicitly come out and say you love me, or like me, or are even attracted to me, but I can read between the lines. Specifically, between the line when you ask me about my interview, and then go on to talk about your work hours.

Yes, there are classic undercover, secret, implicit, invisible 'I love you's' all through that blank space.

A favourite date

We were planning to visit our favourite Thai restaurant - Thai Wi Rat - and were bitterly disappointed to find it shut for Chinese New Year. So instead, we embraced a night of Vietnamese rice paper rolls and delicious Beef Pho soup.

Highlights of the evening included a very grumpy waitress, running through the heaviest of summer downpours, and me charming Will with my hot chocolate dribbling skills.

Yes, that's right. I dribbled/spurted hot chocolate all over the carpet at Gloria Jeans.

I am honoured that Will still goes out in public with me.

20 Days

Or 480 hours.

I am looking forward to:
  • Eating a meal together. Any meal. Preferably containing meat, and lots of it.
  • No Skype. At the moment, I love Skype. A lot. Skype is my friend. But Skype can be flaky and annoying and I am very much ready for some face to face conversations.
  • Standing in the Arrivals lounge and feeling so alive and full of anticipation and nerves. Secretly watching all the other people waiting and wondering if anyone is truly as happy as I am in that moment. Having my eyes glued to the glass doors.
  • That very first moment together again. Adrenaline pumping, things feeling 'back to normal' and still so strange, the cuddles, the talking over the top of one another, laughing at each other.
  • Walking into church together.
  • Walking through the shops together.
  • Sitting on the couch together.
  • Watching a movie together.
  • Hanging out with friends together.
  • Being together.

don't date a girl who reads

"...don’t date a girl who reads because girls who read are the storytellers. you with the joyce, you with the nabokov, you with the woolf. you there in the library, on the platform of the metro, you in the corner of the cafĂ©, you in the window of your room. you, who make my life so god damned difficult. the girl who reads has spun out the account of her life and it is bursting with meaning. she insists that her narratives are rich, her supporting cast colorful, and her typeface bold. you, the girl who reads, make me want to be everything that i am not. but i am weak and i will fail you, because you have dreamed, properly, of someone who is better than i am. you will not accept the life that i told of at the beginning of this piece. you will accept nothing less than passion, and perfection, and a life worthy of being storied."
